You just came back from visiting a friend who has bought an awesome new cooling gadget that looks quite simple to set up and chills quickly the entire space. Since the season has just begun you realized you could get one yourself for easier survival of summer heat. But now you are wondering what to do next, since you don’t want to deal with repairmen and would like to learn how to install a window air conditioner. Worry not, in this text we are going to lead you through the steps for working on your own on your brand new window air conditioner installation kit.
What Do You Have to Prepare in Advance?
The first thing that you have to do before setting it up is to make sure your window is closer to the power socket as most air cooling units come with a cable that is 5/6 feet or around 1.2-2 meters long. It is important to know that it is not advisable to use an adapter plug or extension cord even. Next, you need to have all the necessary tools for your DIY adventure (screwdriver, measuring tape, the manufacturer provided screws and brackets).
How to Install Air Conditioner?
After unpacking it check to see if you have all the parts including mounting brackets, all the necessary extensions and a manual as well to be sure that the whole process goes as smoothly as possible.
Okay, so let’s see how to install air conditioner with least possible effort.
If your package came with weather strips that prevent potential airflow and your AC getting damaged when you are setting it up or removing it, install them first.
The second step is to find the correct panel for each side and then extend the panel till the end and gently slide them all the way in. When you are sure they are well fixed, just secure them with screws that came with the device. After you have done that on both sides of the unit, you can start with putting your cooling system in place.
Window Air Conditioner Unit Install
For safety reasons it is recommended that two persons work on setting up the acclimatization system. Even if you can lift the device by yourself, it is better to have another set of hands. After you finish with that part, lower the window to reach the top of the unit to know it’s safely in place. The next step is basically to secure everything with L bracket or brackets depending on how many came in your package.
The last thing before powering it up is to attach the side panels. Even if your model didn’t come with padding it should be simple. Just extend your panels to the end to reach the frame and secure them with lock/screws that came in your air conditioning installation kit.
Time to Power Up
Just before plugging in check if you have additional screws and brackets that connect the appliance to the interior sill and if they are there screw them as well, as an extra security measure.
When you are done with that, you need to plug the cord in the outlet and you are ready to enjoy your room cooling down.
